After weeks of glorious weather, it was a bit of a shock to have a cold wet Forest School today! It was lovely to see Reception and Year 1 and they were very enthusiastic and had remembered all of our safety rules well.

We started both sessions by reading the fantastic book Odd Dog Out, which tells the story of a Sausage dog who feels a bit different who learns by the end of the book that it’s a good thing to be an individual. Then I offered the children an opportunity to make their own Forest School Log Dog. So they chose a log, then found leaves/ natural treasures to make its eyes, nose, tail etc, they could make it a coat with wool and then we added a lead so they can walk them. They all looked fantastic and they loved the activity. The others climbed, played, role played and did lots of digging and enjoying the mud!

Please remember to always send your children in with Waterproof coats and warm jumpers please, it is always cooler in the woods as its shady. And if it’s going to be a rainy one, a spare pair of shoes is appreciated to keep the classroom clean.
